P.S this is not the actual house that I talk about.💧

Oh My Gosh, what's that?

I am at the bottom of the hill staring up into the thick mist. I could only see the shape of a lifeless house. It was big “ like a mansion” but that's all that I could make out. There was a huge gate but I think I could just fit through the gaps. I just got through and stepped onto the broken cobblestones, they crunched and cracked under my feet and a shiver ran up my spine. The wind was very strong now and the rain poured down on me making my long brown hair saturated. I started to walk up the path and each step made me tense more. I was only wearing trackies and a hoodie and was fighting to keep warm. I was getting very close to the house and could see that it was very rundown. It had paint peeling off and some of the wood was rotten. I was now breathing very fast. What if this was the last time I ever saw the light. I shouldn’t have run away from home and I never said goodbye to my pets. My heart was racing and lots of horrid thoughts were spinning through my head but something was pulling me towards the house. I stepped onto the front step. It felt like the house moved but nothing was going to stop me from entering. I should have left when I had the chance because when I stepped inside I froze…  It was very dark and I could see a shape lying on the ground in the house. It smelt like something rotten. There was a lump in my throat but I didn’t dare to cough. Then a light flickered on and I saw the thing lying on the floor more clearly, I wanted to run away but I didn’t. I couldn’t move, that's all I know. I looked again and I was filled with relief, it was just an old curtain or something like that. But I was still freaked out “what was that red stuff on the mat”? I have to get outta here now I say, but then for some reason, I started walking down the hallways through some doors and up the stairs. It was like I couldn’t stop myself from moving, it felt very strange but I was less scared by now. When I got up the staircase my eyes had adjusted to how dark it was and I could see more clearly but I had my phone in my pocket just in case, because who knows what I might find. Just then I heard a sound that almost sounded like a cat. I started shaking again and then started hearing weird noises. The wind was still going bonkers and I could hear the windows rattle. The rain padded down on the house making me feel uncomfortable. I heard thunder and then saw a flash of lightning. The storm was closing in and getting very bad but the house seemed sturdy and I felt some of my panic disappear.  I walked into a room that seemed to look like a lounge or dining room. It looked all very old-fashioned, and I felt like I was in a movie from the 1920s. Then I suddenly saw a pair of yellow eyes staring at me and I felt as though I almost fainted. I felt for my phone and turned on the flashlight and what I saw made me laugh. It was so cute. There was a kitten, a tiny black fluffy kitten not much smaller than my hand. It was very skinny and looked as though it would not survive much longer. My mouth hung wide open and I cried with relief. I thought that I was about to die. The kitten lay on the couch staring into my eyes. It was the most beautiful kitten I ever saw. We both sat there for about a minute and then I wondered what I should do with the kitten. I couldn't just leave it there so I decided that I should take it with me. I looked at my phone and gasped, it was 11:41 pm. I didn’t know how it got so late but I thought it would be better if I stayed the night here because the storm outside was still so terrible. I picked up the kitten very carefully and went and lay down on the couch with the kitten next to me he purred and I drifted off to sleep. I woke to the sound of floorboards creaking and thunder. The kitten lay next to me alert and listening.  I picked him up and gently put him in my backpack he wriggled a bit but then got used to it. The floorboards were still creaking and I quietly got out of bed and slid on my riding boots. I tiptoed to the hallway and listened, the noise had stopped but it was still stormy. I checked my phone and saw that it was 03:27 am. With my new kitten in my backpack and my backpack over my shoulder, I set off to find my way back outside. I found the staircase and made my way down the stairs. I stopped at the bottom to check if the kitten was alright. I found her snuggled up in the bottom of the bag asleep. I went down the hallway and hoped I was going the right way. “This place is so big it’s like an old haunted mansion”. Every time I got to another door I would stop and listen. I swore I was being followed. I was quite scared but I knew I had to get back home soon because I had a little creature depending on me to help it. We got to the room where I saw the curtain on the mat. The door was just in front of me when something touched my shoulder. I jumped and made a run for the door. I didn't dare to look behind me. The door opened with a creak and I jumped of the steps and I ran the fastest I had ever run in my life. Once I was a safe distance away I slowed down and looked as hard as I could. I saw a big shape standing in the doorway and knew that this was the last time I would ever set foot on broken cobblestones or go into creepy houses. I checked my phone and saw the time 4:09. I must have run pretty fast, I thought to myself if it’s only 4:09. I looked in my backpack and found the kitten looking a bit frightened. I gave him a reassuring pat and I started to jog down to the gate. The walk home took about an hour. I walked up the path to our house and opened the door. I remembered that dad would not be home till 8:00 am. so I took my backpack off and made the kitten comfy on a woolen blanket and collapsed on my bed. and had a rest for five minutes then got up and when to the kitchen I got some milk out of the fridge and warmed it up in the microwave. I checked it to make sure it was not too hot then poured it into a bowl and gave it to the kitten who slurped it up eagerly. I went to the lounge and got the fire going. I then went to the bathroom and got two old towels and a bowl filled with warm water and went and got the kitten. When I got to the lounge I thought I should name him so I gave him the name shadow. What an action-packed night.
